The Chief Barker

Meet The Chief Barker

The Chief Barker is the Chairperson of the Charity and of the Management Team, the “Crew”. The position is normally held for one year and the incumbent leads the charity in all matters relating to governance and strategy. The title derives from fairground entertainment. Historically, a “Barker” drummed up customers at the fairground.

This years Chief Barker is Robyn Lapidus.

He joined Variety nearly 30 years ago and has been an active member ever since. Robyn said, "There are a lot of people who are suffering in the Island and those are the people we want to help. For instance, if there is a group of 12 schoolchildren who are going on a trip and one of them can't afford to go, then we will try and raise the funds to make sure all the children can go. We believe every child should be treated the same."
